Ofgem has to get a grip because the universal service obligation is at serious risk. “With plans to slash 900 postal manager jobs and threats issued to Unite that collective bargaining agreements for our members will be ignored, Royal Mail’s owners are ruining this essential service. It is behaving like a short-term greedy speculator rather than the responsible owner of a key UK public service. She said: “The Royal Mail boardroom is again raising prices while helping itself to massive profits. Postal Service jumped 40 times and a just-announced increase is poised to become the 41st hike in stamp prices. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham has criticised Royal Mail, claiming the price increase was taking place against a background of “massive profits” and plans for job cuts. From 1792 to 2020, the cost of mailing a letter using the U.S.

“We need to carefully balance our pricing against declining letter volumes and increasing costs of delivering to a growing number of addresses six days a week.” Mr Landon added: “While the number of letters our postmen and women deliver has declined from around 20 billion a year to around seven billion since 2004/5, the number of addresses they have to deliver to has grown by around 3.5 million in the same period. If they did this though, I imagine that they must still be opening the offices because I cannot imagine they would shut down the offices during the week (I work downtown and see the giant piles of mail that are dropped off by local corporations each afternoon).Nick Landon, chief commercial officer at Royal Mail, said: “We understand that many companies and households are finding it hard in the current economic environment, and we will always keep our prices as affordable as possible.” At first blush, this seems like it would mean dropping Saturday delivery, but after reading more in-depth about it, I have seen that the USPS has done feasibility studies showing that dropping a mid-week day like Tuesday might make more sense because those days have the lowest mail volume. Historically, stamp prices have risen slower than inflation though, so really you are still probably getting a good deal.Īs for losing a day, I have read online that the post office is specifically asking if they can reduce delivery from 6 days a week to 5 days a week. The most recent price change brings an increase of 32 over the past 15 years. The stamps were 41 cents in 2007 when they were first introduced. They get money sooner (GOTTA BUY BEFORE THE INCREASE!!!) and do not have to deal with tons of customers in line that just want 1-2 cent stamps. The Postal Service says that inflation and increased operating costs are to blame for the increase from 58 cents to 60 cents. Thus, the forever stamp concept came about. Here are Florida’s food assistance payment dates for August 2022: Cash Back Offer: Get cash back on groceries with a picture of your receipt. Anyway, as a result, there would be a massive need for 1-2 cent stamps every year, consumer annoyance, etc. Florida’s SNAP benefits are sent out between the 1st and the 28th of every month, based on the 9th and 8th digits of your Florida case number (read backward) after dropping the 10th digit.

Actually as I understand it DDFD, the Forever stamp concept came about because the Post Office wanted to increase prices about 8-10 cents, but it could not be approved to do this all at once, but it was allowed to spread it out as one increase per year over about 4-5 years (I do not know all the details).
